The NCCSL Wins Silver Award at the LACP Vision Awards 2012

The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka’s (NCCSL) Annual Report for the year 2010/11 was awarded at the recently held Vision Awards inNew York. The NCCSL’s Annual Report was the winner of the Silver Award in the Non-Profit category. 

The Vision Awards, organized by the League of American Communication Professionals (LACP), is the world’s most renowned annual report competition and attracts submissions from organizations across the world.  

Mr. Asoka Hettigoda, President – NCCSL, noted after receiving the award, “Our 2010/11 Annual Report is aptly based on our role as the voice of Sri Lankan business. It communicates to our stakeholders the importance of the remit bestowed on our organization in stimulating, promoting, representing and protecting the interests of Sri Lanka’s many businesses.

”Smart Media, The Annual Report Company, was responsible for conceptualizing and designing NCCSL Annual Report. Dr. Vijith Kannangara, Chairman – Smart Media, said,“ It is imperative that Sri Lankan organizations look at their annual reports as vital communication tools between themselves and their stakeholders. In this regard, we are proud to be highlighting the annual report of an umbrella organization as vital as the NCCSL at such a forum.”

The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka(NCCSL) was founded in 1948. The NCCSL is the focal point for member companies representing virtually the entire spectrum of industry, trade and commerce inSri Lankaincluding some of the most vibrant and progressive business houses in the country.

This is the first ever occasion that NCCSL has produced an Annual Report in complying with international standards and winning a Silver Award confirms  NCCSL’s vision to be one of the world’s best Chambers.  

The LACP was established in 2001 in theUSAto create a forum that discusses best-in-class practices while recognizing those who demonstrate exemplary communication capabilities. The Vision Awards process of the LACP recognizes and rewards outstanding annual reporting from across the globe. The LACP Vision Awards 2012 attracted over 5,500 entries from more than 25 countries.

NCCSL hosts the Deputy Ambassador of the Netherlands Embassy

A seminar on“Bilateral Trade Between Sri Lanka & The Netherlands”organised by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka was held on 24th July 2012 at the National Chamber Auditorium from 3.00 to 4.30 p.m. The Special Guest was Mr Bas Van Noordenne, Deputy Ambassador of the Netherlands Embassy. Mr Noordenne made a very comprehensive presentation on trade, investment opportunities and other services available in the Netherlands. The seminar was well attended and covered by print and electronic media.

Second Batch of Entrepreneurship Management Course Commences

The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) in partnership with the University of Colombo - Institute of Human Resource Advancement (IHRA-UOC) commenced the second batch of the Certificate Course in “Entrepreneurship Management” at the University of Colombo on Saturday 28th July 2012. The course is of four months duration and the lectures are conducted at University of Colombo and the course is designed to impart knowledge to the SME Sector in the country on business and entrepreneurship management. Subjects offered are Business Ethics, Good Management Practices, Marketing & Project Management, Leadership, Legal background for SMEs and Development of Entrepreneurship & Communication Skills. Program also includes field visits and study tours.

NCCSL briefs Health Minister on Arogya 2012

A delegation headed by Mr. Asoka Hettigoda President of the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka met Hon. Maithripala Sirisena, Minister of Health at the Ministry on 5th July 2012 to brief the progress of “Arogya 2012” International Healthcare Exhibition and Symposium organized by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Health.  In addition to the Hon. Minister, Senior officials from the Ministry including Mr. D M R B Dissanayaka, Additional Secretary, Mr. Somarathna Vidhanapathirana, Additional Secretary, Mr Ajith Mendis, Director General- Health Services, Dr. Neelamani Hewageeganage, Director, Health Education Bureau and Heads of Several Units in the Ministry participated at the briefing. 140 stalls have already been reserved by both Public and Private Sector organizations engaged in Healthcare sector.  Almost all the major private sector Hospitals including Nawaloka Hospital, Asiri Hospital PLC, Ninewells Hospital, Lanka Hospital, Oasis Hospital, Delmon Hospital and many medical related products and services providers have taken stalls. In addition, Health Ministries in Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Northern and Eastern Provinces have also made their reservations. Many foreign countries such as  India and Singapore have confirmed their participation and Singapore, Bangladesh, Pakistan and China are expected to bring in their  business delegations to explore investment opportunities.  “Argoya 2012” will be held from 17th - 19th August 2012 at the BMICH Colombo. Exhibition will be opened for the public in all three days.
