The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a networking session with the newly appointed Sri Lankan Ambassadors / High Commissioners designate to several countries such as Canada, China, Maldives, Myanmar, Netherlands, Poland, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Thailand and Vietnam on 21st March 2024 at the National Chamber Auditorium.

Objective of this networking event was to provide an overview about the services of National Chamber and explore opportunities for enhancement of bilateral trade and investment opportunities between Sri Lanka and the respective nations represented by the Ambassadors/High Commissioners.

Mr. Deepal Nelson, President of the National Chamber, set the context for the event with his opening remarks, extending a warm welcome to the esteemed Ambassadors/High Commissioners. He underscored the pivotal role of such interactions in facilitating meaningful engagement between the diplomatic and business communities, particularly amidst the current economic challenges facing Sri Lanka. Emphasizing the Chamber’s commitment to building bridges and fostering partnerships on a global scale, Mr. Nelson urged for concerted efforts in promoting market access, technology transfer, joint ventures, innovation, and investment, thereby positioning Sri Lanka as a favorable destination for international cooperation and commerce.

The session received active participation of the Council of the National Chamber, member organisations and leaders from the business community. Their insightful contributions and expectations regarding business expansion plans enriched the discussions, paving the way for a fruitful exchange of ideas and perspectives. The Ambassadors/High Commissioners emphasized the enthusiasm and commitment expressed by the business community, pledging to leverage their roles to facilitate and promote Sri Lanka’s interests in their respective destinations.
