The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka proudly introduced the Women’s Forum with the mission to, ‘Inspire & empower women towards sustainable economic growth’ and also to create a strong voice and impact for equality. The primary focus of the forum is to

foster women entrepreneurship, capacity building, adaptation to technology, advocate for wellness & health as well as encourage environmental sustainability and climate initiatives. 

As the initial workshop by the Women’s Forum, a session titled ‘Beauty & Wellness from the Inside Out’ has been organized in collaboration with Janet Sri Lanka. This session was conducted on Wednesday, 7th August 2024 at the National Chamber Auditorium with a wider participation of women entrepreneurs in the MSME sector as well as working women reaching an audience of over 150 participants.

The workshop comprised of two sessions, Session 1 on Self-care, Health, and Wellness of women was conducted by Prof. Kaumadi Karunagoda, Head of the Department, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo. The scope of this session enlightened the audience about the importance of adhering to good health practices and maintaining wellness through a balanced lifestyle amidst busy schedules. Prof. Karunagoda emphasized vial facts about women’s wellness that encompasses physical, mental, and emotional well-being throughout a woman’s life. During the Q & A session discussed unique aspects of women’s health, including reproductive health, mental and physical health, and the work-life balance.

The session 2 focused on Enhancing Beauty of women and how to build up their self-confidence, presented by a team from Janet Sri Lanka along with a professional beautician who carried out demonstrations as well as shared knowledge about various herbal cosmetic products application and benefits. Session was moderated by Mr.Dinuka Madhushan of Janet Sri Lanka and it was more interactive while the audience was given the opportunity to get engaged in a Question and Answer session and get rewarded with gift packs for the correct answers provided.

Ms. Renuka Jayamanna, Chairperson of the Women’s Forum and the Council member of the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka delivered the welcome address and Mrs. Nilupul Chandrasena, Secretary General of the National Chamber provided an introduction to the Women’s Forum and the objectives of organizing these workshops and programs for the womenkind by the National Chamber. This initial workshop by the Women’s Forum was organized with the support of our co-sponsors, DFCC Bank, Aloka Banking Products and Nawaloka Constructions (Pvt) Ltd, who contributed to the success of the event.

The National Chamber extends sincere gratitude to the guest speaker Prof.Kaumadi Karunagoda, Head of the Department, Faculty of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, Janet Sri Lanka and participants for making this event a success. Further the National Chamber invites all the women entrepreneurs in MSME sector and working women to join hands with the Women’s Forum in their journey of knowledge sharing and CSR initiatives to inspire and empower women. There will be many similar informative sessions organized in the future to enhance the knowledge and skills of the women entrepreneurs in the MSME sector as well as working women who contribute to the economic growth of the nation.
